Movies vs Novels

Ok everyone - have you already read Fantastic Mr. Fox?v So, since the movie is coming out soon, I think ou should read the book first. I think that a book is always better than a movie because the movie in your head (as the reader) is always better than the movie.
Can you think of any novels you have read where the book is better than the movie?
AND - can you think of any movie that is better than the book?

Also, with much dicussionm at Snowville Elementary, many students have commented that there are some movies that require the viewer to read the book first. Many children have mentioned that Harry Potter movies require that the book be read first. The book helps fill in the information that is found in the movie - like the expository and character details. This way, viewers can better understand the Harry Potter movies. But, most of my students think that the Harry Potter movies are for the most part better than the books.

What do you think?

P.S. Don't forget about other movies that have been released this year. One of my favorite movies this year is Up. What has been your favorite movie so far this year?

  2. the best movie out this year is The Blindside. It is very funny and has a good storyline. But with the harry potter movies, it makes no sense unless you read the books. The half blood prince movie sucked. If you havent read the book then you will never under stand it. But it showed me one useful thing, the preview for the percy jackson movie.

  3. I think that some movies are better than the novel like the Polar Express and some novels are better than the movie like Holes. Movies are like 1hr to 3hrs long but you sometimes don't get the big picture and novels are longer and you usually get the big picture. So i'm kinda in the middle.

I think this year's Harry Potter was a load of biscuts(though biscuts are good, just not in this case). But heck,Hairy Potroast stinks anyway. But Percy Jackson looks like they whoop butt, unlike Harry Potter, where they're just nerds and never get in trouble.

  9. The Percy Jackson series is wonderful! There are 5 books and all are very exciting and well written. You MUST read the novels before you see the movie.

  12. Hi all, I LOVE to read! When I was in 5th grade, I lived across the street from the children's library (before they moved it into the new building). I read every book in the first room! Every Hardy Boy, Bobsey Twin, Nancy Drew, biography, Narnia, etc. Now I wish I could read all of the books you have today in 2009 - Goosebumps, Series of Events, Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. I really don't care what the "reading level" of the books are, just that they are well written and interesting!!!
See you at schools, Mrs. Perry
